May 2014 | Open Source

Packt is pleased to announce the release of UDK Game Development, a video tutorial for people who have the urge to know more about how all those amazing games they have played for countless hours are created. The duration of the video course is 3 hours and 37 minutes, and it is competitively priced at $33.99.

About the author:

John P. Doran is a technical game designer who has been creating games for over 10 years. In addition to this video course, he is the author of Getting Started with UDK, Mastering UDK Game Development, and he co-wrote UDK iOS Game Development Beginner's Guide, all of which are available from Packt Publishing. He has worked on an assortment of games in teams of just himself to over 70 people in student, mod, and professional projects. He previously worked at LucasArts on Star Wars: 1313 as a game design intern. He later graduated from DigiPen Institute of Technology in Redmond, WA, with a Bachelor of Science in Game Design.

The Unreal Engine is a game engine developed by Epic Games, first illustrated in the 1998 first-person shooter game Unreal. The third generation of the Unreal Engine (UE3) is designed for DirectX (versions 9-11 for Windows, Windows RT, and Xbox 360) as well as systems using OpenGL, including the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, OS X, iOS, Android, Stage 3D for Adobe Flash Player 11, JavaScript/WebGL for HTML5 Web Browsers, PlayStation Vita, and Wii U. In November 2009, Epic released a free version of UE3's SDK, called the Unreal Development Kit (UDK), which is available to the general public.

UDK Game Development teaches viewers about the main features of UDK, UnrealScript, and Kismet while showing them how to build a third-person platformer game. Even if the viewer has no prior experience of UDK, they can still start building the games they want today. The course will first cover how to build a level and an area by making use of models and geometry. By the end of this course, viewers will have a solid foundation in building games which will help them in their own future projects. A sample clip of the video course can be found by visiting https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=p%20...%20GuScfZxulA.
