About the authors:
Rosato Fabbri has been the IT manager for Need s.r.l. for the last 10 years. Need's network is entirely based on FortiGate appliances and on secure VPNs over the Internet. Rosato used his first FortiGate appliance in 2003. He utilized the competitive advantage of the Fortinet technology, both in functionality and in features, and that advantage enabled Need to gain the trust of its customers and gain an edge over its competitors.
Fabrizio Volpe has worked as a network and systems administrator for the Iccrea Banking Group since 2000. Since 2011, he has been awarded the Microsoft MVP on Directory Services from Microsoft, and his focus is currently on Windows systems, security, and unified communications. Since the year 2000, Fabrizio has delivered speeches at many events and conferences (both Italian and international).
FortiGate from Fortinet is a highly successful family of appliances enabled to manage routing and security on different layers, dynamic protocols, IPSEC and VPN with SSL, application and user control, web contents and mail scanning, endpoint checks, and more, all in a single platform. The heart of the appliance is FortiOS (FortiOS 5 is the latest release), which is able to unify a friendly web interface with a powerful command line to deliver high performance.
Getting Started with FortiGate is a concise, example-oriented book that explores all the concepts developers need to administer a FortiGate unit by familiarizing readers with the basic tools required, including NAT, routing, and VLANs. The book then moves on to guide developers through the concepts of firewalling, UTM inside the appliance, tunnelling using SSL, and IPSEC and dial-up configurations. Next, readers are acquainted with important topics like high availability, Vdoms, and troubleshooting techniques.
Getting Started with FortiGate is perfect for network administrators, security managers, and IT pros who have never managed a FortiGate unit before; the book helpfully walks through the basic concepts and common mistakes.
