About the Author:

Rafał Kuć is a born team leader and software developer. Currently working as a Consultant and a Software Engineer at Sematext Inc, where he concentrates on open source technologies such as Apache Lucene and Solr, ElasticSearch, and Hadoop stack. He has more than 10 years of experience in various software branches, from banking software to e-commerce products.

Apache Solr is written in Java and runs as a standalone full-text search server within a servlet container such as Tomcat. Solr uses the Lucene Java search library at its core for full-text indexing and search, and has REST-like HTTP/XML and JSON APIs that make it easy to use from virtually any programming language. Solr's powerful external configuration allows it to be tailored to almost any type of application without Java coding, and it has extensive plugin architecture when more advanced customization is required.

Apache Solr 4 Cookbook shows readers how to get the most out of their search engine. Readers will discover how to set up Apache Solr, tune and benchmark performance as well as index and analyze the data to provide better, more precise, and useful search data. The book aims to guide readers in making their search better, more accurate and faster with practical recipes on essential topics such as SolrCloud, querying data, search faceting, text and data analysis, and cache configuration.

Some of the chapters emphasized in this book are

Chapter 1: Apache Solr Configuration
Chapter 2: Indexing Your Data
Chapter 3: Analyzing Your Text Data
Chapter 4: Querying Solr
Chapter 5: Using the Faceting Mechanism
Chapter 6: Improving Solr Performance
Chapter 7: In the Cloud
Chapter 8: Using Additional Solr Functionalities
Chapter 9: Dealing with Problems

Apache Solr 4 Cookbook will specifically appeal to developers who wish to quickly get to grips with the changes and new features of Apache Solr 4.
