June 2013 | Cookbooks, Web Development

Packt is pleased to announce the release of HTML5 and CSS3 Responsive Web Design Cookbook, a practical guide to generating websites that effortlessly interface with different resolutions. Packed with clear instructions and real-world examples, this book will show you how to create responsive web applications that are fast and intuitive on multiple devices.

About the author:
Benjamin LaGrone is a web developer from Texas. He is the mobile and responsive web evangelist for the team in a SAAS development shop. At the age of 6 he got his start in programming when he took his first computer class at The Houston Museum of Natural Science. His first program was a “Choose your own adventure” book written in BASIC, back in the days when software needed to be written in line numbers. Ben made a career combining art and coding, and his favorite project was using the GMaps API to map pathologies to chromosomes for cancer research.

HTML5 and CSS3 Responsive Web Design Cookbook is full of recipes that cover a range of areas, such as enhancing and optimizing sites for the latest devices and the mobile Web, making images automatically respond to page size, creating responsive menus, embedding responsive videos, and taking advantage of a number of responsive typography techniques. Readers will learn techniques for server-side and client-side media deployment, providing platforms that are scaled for any device that requests them.

The book will teach readers how to use new responsive frameworks, and how to update old static frameworks to be responsive with just a few lines of CSS. Readers will also discover how to make a mobile website using jQuery mobile and unobtrusive interactions that exist as a separate layer within the presentation, allowing it to coexist with other scripts for other devices.

The book consists of the following chapters:
Chapter 1: Responsive Elements and Media
Chapter 2: Responsive Typography
Chapter 3: Responsive Layout
Chapter 4: Using Responsive Frameworks
Chapter 5: Making Mobile-first Web Applications
Chapter 6: Optimizing Responsive Content Chapter 7: Unobtrusive JavaScript

This book will be a useful guide for developers seeking innovative techniques that deliver fast, intuitive interfacing for the latest devices. For more information please visit the book page at http://www.packtpub.com/html5-and-css3-responsive-web-design-cookbook/book
