Windows 8 is a version of Microsoft Windows for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, tablets, and home theater PCs. It introduces a new style of application, Windows Store apps. Windows Store apps run within a new set of APIs known as the Windows Runtime, which support programming languages such as C, C++, VB.NET, and C#, along with HTML5 and JavaScript. Depending on the language used, apps written for Windows Runtime can be compatible with both Intel and ARM versions of Windows.

Windows 8 C++ Application Development How-to is an indispensable manual that will teach readers the different layouts and views for creating engaging user interfaces. This easy-to-follow book covers the best practices, and hints and tips to understanding Windows 8 and developing great apps. Users will discover how to take advantage of the new features of the Windows 8 architecture in detail and learn how to build Windows Store style UI and features that define the core Windows Store experience, as well as write WinRT components, and pack and deploy their app to the Windows Store.
