I am pleased to announce the finalists in the 2010 Open Source Awards. The nominations started on 9th August and since then we've received just fewer than 8000 nominations from the open source community supporting their favorite open source projects. The voting stage begins Monday 27th September and ends Friday 5th November.

This month Packt Open Source published the Implementing SugarCRM 5.x book.
The book is a complete guide to implementing SugarCRM including topics such as needs assessment, installing and using the software, training users, integrating with existing systems, and more covered.
Packt is re-launching its annual Award as the Open Source Awards this year and while reading this may catch some off guard, those who are familiar with Packt’s values will recognize that this is a move that allows us to encourage, support, recognize and reward not only Content Management Systems but all Open Source projects, benefiting the Open Source community as a whole.
Packt would like for all of you to fill in the new eBook survey and as an act of goodwill, Packt is offering those who fill it in, a huge eBook discount.
As Packt's range of books grows, more titles begin to relate to each other, and people may want to order more than one book. As such, a new range of discounts have been launched, with 18% being offered off the price of purchases of two to four books, and a 20% discount being applied to orders of five to ten books.
In order to gain a greater understanding of the take-up of cloud computing, Packt is running a cloud computing survey. We would love to hear your thoughts on this upcoming technology, and in return for your answers will offer 40% off the price of your next eBook purchase, through a discount code which you will receive on completion of the short questionnaire. It should take ten minutes at most, and can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/S6H2NC6
As Moodle is one of Packt’s bestselling topics, we were excited to attend this year’s MoodleMoot UK 2010 at Senate House in London and meet the readers – and some of the authors – of our books. We were happy to see how many people had already heard of Packt, many of whom already had a number of Packt books on their bookshelves, and were keen to find out about further areas of Moodle on which they would like to see a book.
You have probably noticed some pretty hefty discounts on books on Packt's website recently, being offered in celebration of the brand launch. 20% is being offered off the price of all hard copy books, and 30% off the price of all eBooks.
As you’ve already seen in this blog, a key reason for the launch of these brands is to boost our ability to specialize, and this is pertinent not only to our books, but also to our interactions with customers and readers.
The big day has finally arrived. Packt Open Source and Packt Enterprise have launched, along with the release of two newly branded books, Microsoft Silverlight 4 Data and Services Cookbook and Moodle 1.9 Theme Design: Beginner's Guide.
