The Judges will be choosing from the five Content Management Systems that received the most nominations, during the nomination stage. They will be selecting their top three based on a number of factors including performance, usability, accessibility, ease of configuration and customization, scalability and security. The Judging panel is made up from a list of experienced and respected figures in the open source and Content Management industry:
Elliot Smith
Elliot Smith is a Software Engineer at Talis, working on library systems with a focus on RESTful web services. He has a doctorate in Computer Science, was previously a Web Developer at the University at Birmingham, and has worked at OpenAdvantage, encouraging businesses to use and produce open source software. Recently, his first book, Ruby on Rails Enterprise Application Development: Plan, Program, Extend was published by Packt. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening, reading, listening to music, and spending time with his family.
Chris Smart, MaketheMove.net
Chris Smart is an advocate of free and open source software. He was the founder of the Kororaa Linux distribution which (through their live CD) brought 3D desktop effects such as Xgl to the masses. He also founded the Make The Move project which presents free and open source software as a viable option for users and encourages them to make the move to free software. On a larger scale he is passionate about the benefits of free software for the business and education sectors, as well as the general community.
Arjun Chopra, OStatic
Arjun Chopra is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of OStatic, which is the newest member of the GigaOM Network - a network serving several million users a month. OStatic aims to help users find the right Open Source software for their personal and business needs, evaluate Open Source alternatives to Proprietary Source applications and services, and collaborate with a network of trusted peers. OStatic also provides the community with originally created content from a team of experienced editors and technologists. OStatic is launching several new services, including viral monetization, free hardware, free tools and free hosting offers to encourage the development and adoption of Open Source Software and is striving to help technologists and companies showcase their skills, offerings and expertise.
Arjun has worked extensively with Open Source Software and has held several technology development and management positions in Consumer and Enterprise software. He has a BS in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Roberto Galoppini
A computer industry insider of 17 years standing, Roberto has worked in such hands-on roles as programmer and systems analyst as well as being involved at a strategic level in one of the first European Open Source firms, Consortia. He takes an active interest in several free/open source software organisations, including serving on the Advisory Board of the SourceForge and acting as the Institutional Relationship Manager for the OpenOffice.org Italian Association. He researches on the economics of Open Source software from 2003, and he writes almost daily about open source business at his commercial open source blog: http://robertogaloppini.net
