Packt Publishing is a fast growing specialist IT book publisher based in Olton, Birmingham. A period of strong market growth means we are ready to expand our friendly editorial team and are seeking a new Acquisition Editor. The successful candidate will be given a high level of responsibility, but we’ll fully support and guide you with comprehensive on-the-job training. This is an empowering and creative role driving the development of new titles from initial concept to market launch, and a fantastic opportunity to take a leading role in one of the industry’s most innovative and respected IT publishing brands. Reporting directly to the Publisher, key responsibilities will include researching market opportunities for new titles, identifying new authors and building networks. The successful candidate will also liaise with authors and reviewers throughout the production process to ensure high quality and on time publication, and provide data to marketing and sales to enable successful sell through of the title. Requirements: A good degree in any area. You must already have graduated, existing students need not apply. Be able to demonstrate to us why you are interested in publishing as a career, this doesn’t necessarily mean you have to have experience in the industry A genuine love of books, reading and writing Attention to detail and superb written English spelling and grammar skills. We will reject any applicant with spelling or grammar mistakes on the covering letter or CV. Strong research skills and an aptitude for understanding new technologies quickly. Experience in the technology itself isn’t necessary but an interest in technology is. Ability to manage projects, work on your own initiative and meet deadlines. If you’re fanatical about the quality of the written word and have a strong eye for detail, Packt Publishing needs you to join our brand new Editorial Quality function based in Olton, Birmingham, with input into a large editorial team in Mumbai, India. This full-time permanent role will involve ensuring that book content due for publication is well written, grammatically correct, accessible and meets the in-house guidelines. You’ll be the owner of our quality standards and responsible for providing ongoing feedback to the editorial production team to improve the quality of their editing. The successful candidate will need to have a passion for communicating the importance of first class written English because the role also involves travel to Mumbai, India (up to twice a year) to provide training workshops and one to one feedback to the team on editorial quality issues.
