2009 Award Voting Closes in One Week

Tuesday, October 27, 2009 | News | Open Source

The second stage of the 2009 Open Source CMS Award draws to a close on October 30th, giving just one week left to put forward your vote. Over 20,000 votes have been received so far across all the categories.

Packt introduced a new category system for 2009 and increased the total number of categories from five to six, with the addition of the “Hall of Fame”. This is considered by Packt as a step towards scaling the Award to recognize more CMSes and at the same time acknowledge those who have already won the Award in previous years.

Four out of the five systems that made it to the Overall Award finals this year have done so for the first time in the Award’s history. While the Overall Award category has been able to recognize new worthy entrants into the CMS market, the “Hall of Fame” has been created exclusively to honor the previous winners of the Overall Award.

Apart from a competition between previous winners, the Hall of Fame also features an Award named after each finalist in the category. Since Joomla! and Drupal are the only two CMSes to have ever won the Overall Award, the Hall of Fame features Awards named after Joomla! and Drupal. In these sub-categories, five themes and extensions/modules nominated by representatives from Joomla! and Drupal compete amongst one another to win the title of “Best Joomla! Theme”, “Best Joomla! Extension”, “Best Drupal Theme”, and “Best Drupal Module”.

Users are invited to vote for their favorite CMS across all the applicable categories to maximize its chances of winning its share of the total prize fund, which stands at $24,000.

Public votes will be combined with ratings from a panel of Judges with the winners announced on November 9. Packt is giving away an 8GB iPod Touch to three lucky winners chosen randomly from the voting stage. Every individual who participates in a short Open Source CMS Award survey will automatically enter the draw to win the iPod.
