 Voting begins on September 1
The Packt Open Source Content Management System Award is designed to
encourage, support, recognize and reward Open Source Content Management Systems (CMS) that have been selected by a panel of judges and visitors to
www.PacktPub.com. Now entering its third year, the Award has established itself as an important measure for quality and the popularity of Open Source Content Management Systems.
The
2008 Award will continue to support a range of open source Content Management Systems with four main categories offering prize money of $5,000 for the overall winner and $2,000 for the winners of the remaining categories.

A new category has been developed and will
replace Open Source Social Networking. This exciting new category is for MVPs
at Open Source Content Management Systems. This is designed to recognise the contributions
to projects made by individuals that often go unnoticed. For the large majority
of Open Source projects, it is the tireless contributions from enthusiastic
individuals that enable its growth and adoption and these are the people that
Packt feels is necessary to identify. MVPs will be nominated by their projects and
will be announced during the final week, with features on the MVPs for the
Content Management Systems that won their categories.

We will be selecting three names at
random from the list of people who nominated, who will go on to win an
iPod Nano! Winners will be announced during September.

The overall
winner is the main category for the Awards, which is why it has been
allocated
half of the prize fund. We want to show our support for the less
mature CMS’s
in the most promising category by offering more prize money to the first and second runners up. We
want to be able to provide them with the recognition, support and funds to
progress. A change for 2008 will see the first and second runners up in the Best PHP and Best Other categories receiving $500.
All
prize money is donated by Packt Publishing.
